Description
The Shuttle Cock Yellow/Tan Dry Fly is a CDC emerger with an essential profile, designed for the most selective grayling and trout, the ones in heavily fished waters that have seen it all. Hand-tied in Italy, the set includes 3 flies.
Its secret lies in how it sits on the water. The tan CDC tuft, tied in at the head and pointing forward like the feathers of a badminton shuttlecock, keeps only the front of the fly afloat; the slim body in 10/0 yellow tying thread, thanks to the curve of the grub hook, hangs suspended just below the surface film. This is exactly the position of an insect emerging from its shuck: vulnerable, motionless, impossible to refuse.
The yellow body with the tan CDC tuft imitates pale emergers, such as small yellow mayflies and pale midges on summer evenings, when rises become frequent and fish turn more selective.
The CDC floats naturally and moves at the slightest hint of current, while the stripped-down body gives the fish nothing to be suspicious about. It’s the fly to tie on when fish are rising but ignoring traditional dry flies.
Available on barbless grub hooks in sizes #16, #18 and #20.
