Description
The Shuttle Cock Black Dry Fly is a CDC emerger with an essential profile, designed for the most selective grayling and trout, the ones in heavily fished waters that have seen it all. Hand-tied in Italy, the set includes 3 flies.
Its secret lies in how it sits in the water. The grey CDC puff, tied in at the head and facing forward like the feathers of a shuttlecock, keeps only the front part of the fly afloat; the slim body in 10/0 black tying thread, thanks to the curve of the grub hook, hangs below the surface film. It’s exactly the position of an insect emerging from its shuck: vulnerable, motionless, impossible to refuse.
The black body is the safest choice when chironomids and small dark dipterans are on the water: a silhouette that reads perfectly from below, against the sky, even in clear water and bright light.
The CDC floats naturally and moves at the slightest hint of current, while the stripped-down body leaves the fish nothing to be suspicious of. It’s the fly to knot on when fish are rising but ignoring traditional dries.
Available on barbless grub hooks in sizes #16, #18 and #20.
