Description
San Juan Worm Micro Pink is an aquatic worm imitation tied with a micro chenille and mounted with no added weight at all, for a slow descent and a completely natural drift.
The San Juan Worm is one of the oldest and most effective imitations in fly fishing: it copies the aquatic worms that live in the riverbed and that the current constantly washes loose. It is a food item trout know well, do not associate with danger, and will take even when they refuse everything else.
This Micro version uses a special chenille, 1 mm on the smaller sizes and 2 mm on the larger ones, for a slim, realistic profile that the far bulkier classic versions simply do not have.
No added weight: no bead, no lead. The fly sinks slowly and follows the current seam without being dragged, which makes it right for the long dead drift over difficult fish on big rivers, where a weighted fly behaves unnaturally and puts them down.
Colour Pink
Pink is the colour stocked trout pick out first, and it is irreplaceable in milky snowmelt water when visibility is short.
How to fish it
- On a long dead drift: on fine, long leaders, letting it drift freely with no retrieve. This is where it does its best work on wild, wary fish.
- Under an indicator: suspended in the seam, with the depth set close to the bottom.
- As a point fly: below a weighted nymph, when you need to reach the bottom without giving up a slim profile.
- After a spate: when the current has worked the riverbed and worms are drifting.
