Description
The CDC Simple Olive Dry Fly is an essential pattern for selective fish: grayling and trout that inspect the fly up close and refuse anything that doesn’t convince. Hand-tied in Italy, the set includes 3 flies.
It doesn’t imitate a single stage of the insect but suggests two. On the grub hook the body curves and hangs down into the film like that of an emerger leaving its shuck, while the CDC grey hackle suggests the wings and legs of the newly hatched imago. The CDC fibres move at the slightest hint of current, giving the fly a lifelike impression that even the wariest fish struggle to ignore.
The olive biot body is naturally segmented and stays slim even in contact with water, tied with black 10/0 tying thread. The olive biot body imitates the small greenish mayflies, such as Baetis, present for much of the season and often decisive on overcast days.
Available on barbless grub hooks in sizes #16, #18 and #20.
